  • Get ready, guys, there’s a new club in town. Penthouse Executive Club, opened in June 2003, has brought your favorite Penthouse Pets within arm’s reach. Without question the most upscale, classy, expensive, exclusive strip club in town, Executive Club is like Vegas in New York. Five different stages (two of which are suspended from the mezzanine) vie for your attention, featuring truly beautiful women of all types. Electric fans blow the hair of the dancers onstage as though they were in a fashion shoot. I felt like I was in a music video. And there’s a world-class steakhouse on site so you can have your steak and see your strippers, too. It’s a male fantasy come true, and the effect is dizzying.

Penthouse spared no expense: the $10 million, 10,000-square-foot complex and two-story atrium accommodates 400 guests. While the drinks, as expected, are pricey, the menu is impressive, featuring aged brandy, fine wine from a 2,000-bottle wine cellar, port, and champagne, and the steakhouse is no more expensive than any upscale restaurant in the same neighborhood. What’s refreshing is that a night at the club itself is surprisingly reasonable. Cover is a standard $20 ($30 Fr-Sa), and long, lavish lap dances are the same $20 as less deluxe clubs. The private rooms, featuring crushed velvet, elegant lamps, and, in one, your own personal light show, range from $200 to $1,000 for the room, with a gorgeous girl all to yourself for $400 an hour, but there’s no bottle minimum—you pay only for the room and the company. It’s a very up-front, comfortable, no-games, and no-surprises place. Best of all, patrons enjoy clear sightlines from everywhere in the sprawling house, so no matter where you are, there’s always something—and someone—beautiful to look at.

Penthouse Executive Club is indeed New York’s biggest and grandest gentlemen’s club, and when they say gentlemen, they mean it. Most men wear suits, or at least button-down shirts, and it’s definitely an affluent, classy crowd. Even the strippers wear Tiffany necklaces with their G-strings. There are nearly as many bouncers as there are dancers (which is a lot) and while they’re suited up and exceedingly polite, it’s clear they’re there to keep the riff-raff out. This is the club that separates the boys—content with a night of Bud Light and boobies—from the men, who expect the best of everything, and will find it here.

If stripping is a lost art, it remains lost at Privilege NY, a so-called gentlemen’s cabaret located at the northern edge of the Meatpacking District. Once, burlesque shows titillated audiences by keeping certain things concealed (you’ve got to respect the power of the pasty). These days, stripping usually consists of nothing more than a dancer wanly shifting her hips to a blaring Top 40 tune, and then abruptly, and with little subtlety, removing her dress. That kind of uninspired choreography is par for the course at Privilege, where dancers compete for attention with the game of the moment being shown on one of the many overhead TV monitors. Visit on the weekends to find the greatest variety of dancers—upwards of 40—wiggling their wares or chatting up the customers, but be prepared to contend with one of the many bachelor parties that call Privilege home on a Friday or Saturday night.

Privilege strives hard for diversity, offering a bevy of women from white to Latina, East Asian to African-American. While you sit among Wall Streeters nursing a $10 beer or a $15 cocktail, you might be tempted to buy a lap dance ($20). That’s the draw here, as the dreary dances taking place on the club’s two stages aren’t likely to arouse you. It’s the prospect of titties being dangled up close and personal that pries large bills from the mostly corporate clientele. High rollers often opt for an hour in the Privileged room, where starting at $500, you can sip champagne and enjoy 60 minutes of private steamy dancing from the girl of your choice. And gents, remember, you can look but don’t touch, unless you want to get to know a guy named Bruno.
