Just a stone’s throw from The Late Show with David Letterman studios, Flash Dancers seems almost a relic of the pre-Giuliani Times Square era, back when a lap dance (or more) was much easier to come by around these parts. The red neon sign, casino-red carpeting, disco balls, faux-marble bar, and barrel-chested bouncers in Reservoir Dogs suits all add the sort of vintage sleaze glamour one expects in a classic strip joint.

When it comes to girls, Flash Dancers provides mega-bang for your buck in sheer stripper volume: the club’s ever-changing roster of va-va-voom girl-flesh means you will definitely find plenty of eye candy. Weekends tend to have a higher ratio of well-toned Cali-style blondes sporting prominent implants and well-tended fake tans (always impressive in the dead of a New York City winter). For more spice, however, you might prefer weeknights, when the women come in all manner of New York shapes and sizes, from lean to voluptuous, with greater ethnic variety—and as an added weeknight bonus, you’re more likely to spot a pair of real tits.

No matter what night you hit the club, there will always be several girls on stage languidly stripping down to their politically correct G-strings. Still, “lap dance emporium” seems a more accurate description of this place than “strip club.” Stripping, here, is secondary to the action out on the floor, and once you’re seated, it’ll likely be moments before some lovely lady offers you a lap dance. If you accept, you’ll be ushered into one of the shadowed back banquettes, presumably for “privacy,” although it isn’t unusual to see patrons getting a dance at the bar, at a front table, in fact all over the place, since those back banquettes fill up quickly. The girls here are generally sweet and hustle-free in their approach. A lap dance will set you back $20 a pop; private sessions in the VIP room go for $480 an hour.

Drinks are the usual pricey, watered-down affairs, but the luscious topless women behind the bar will help you forget that you just paid eight dollars for that Bud. The clientele at Flash Dancers is varied—corporate suits mixing seamlessly with Bridge and Tunnel guys, adventurous couples, frat boys, single men, and plenty of flesh-seeking tourists on the weekends—no one seems out of place here. In fact, several years ago the club was featured in a Letterman comedy bit entitled “Can a guy in a bear suit get into a strip club?”—and yep, the guy in the bear suit did indeed get into the club.
All told, the place feels very comfortable, exuding a satisfying old-school vibe. It’s not too executive-swank, not too divey, with plenty of friendly, high-quality T&A to make just about everyone happy. As Goldilocks might say—if she’d ever wandered into this New York City strip club—something about the joint feels just right.
