Just one look at the website, and you think you know what to expect at Rock Bar - hot gay men looking for fun in a casual rock music playing bar. The one-page web site reflects the bar - simple with a pool table and men on the prowl. "Cheap and Proud of it" is their motto, and the specially priced drinks each night of the week certainly encourage lustful flirtation. The ingredients are ripe for fun, but the bar is a contradiction. First, the location is not ideal, unless you live within blocks of the west side highway. It's a neighborhood bar, but exudes a velvet-rope attitude. The staff and clientele have attitude that belies a neighborhood feel. To attract a wider gay following, Rock Bar now hosts "Kitty Punch Dirty Rock" dance party for "Dykes, Fags, Tranny's...and everything else above and beyond" on Wednesday nights. Admittedly, I went one Wednesday night on the early side - 10 pm - but I would have expected at least one person who fits the party description. Instead the bar had exactly five people - standard hot gay men. Again, great eye candy, but what's the point if you can't suck on it?
