- Could there be anything cooler than GalleryBar - a cocktail bar and art gallery all in one? The answer is definitely not. Bars and clubs line the lower east side, so it may be hard to choose a favorite, but it's worth making a special trip from other parts of NYC just to go to the GalleryBar. Art gallery by day and lounge/dance club by night, GalleryBar attracts a hip crowd, albeit on the youngish side - 20s-30s. Not to say older folks - 40s and above - will not enjoy the environment, but as a 40-something myself, a crowded, loud bar lost its charm and appeal back in the 1990s. Weekends can get very crowded, and there is a slight velvet-rope attitude at the door, but generally everyone gets in. Once inside, check out both floors. Trying to view the art at night could be difficult with hordes of people in your way, but plan a trip during the day to see some interesting art. Otherwise, impress a date by taking him/her to GalleryBar. Just be prepared to maneuver through the crowds.
