NYC overflows with bars for gay men, but there's a much smaller selection for girls seeking girls. I was excited when I heard about a lively but laid-back wine bar for lesbians. The bar is intimate and fantastic for a first date. Despite a small interior, however, the staff appears overwhelmed and not very service oriented. Yes, there is a gay clientele - men and women - but this is not a Henrietta Hudson where you can meet, mingle and flirt with fun girls. Cava is more appropriate for a glass or bottle of wine after a movie at the nearby theater or shopping in the neighborhood. Cava has a food menu, but its offerings and portions can't compete with the wine selection. For a quiet chat over wine, do go to Cava if you're on the upper west side; if not, head to Henrietta Hudson or Cubbyhole for more thrills.
