  • As one friend described, Bruno Jamais is New York City meets St. Tropez, circa 1986. This should not deter you from going, however, because, like many other restaurant/bars in NYC, Bruno Jamais' peculiarities are actually appealing.

Bruno Jamais is an upper east side French restaurant/bar that has the feel of a private club catering to an older, affluent crowd. The venue is extensive, with high ceilings, dark interior, artwork, and a dining room that is intimate and comfortable. In addition to having a cool interior, Bruno Jamais offers delicious food. Whether you're going for dinner or appetizers around 2 am with a group of friends, the menu offers a varied selection of well-crafted and tasty dishes. My personal favorites are the macaroni & cheese and tuna tartar appetizers. I've been told that the salmon entrée is delicious too. You might expect that Bruno Jamais would offer a good wine and cocktail menu, but fine-dining is also available.

For a fun evening of dinner and drinks, or just cocktails, Bruno Jamais is a good choice. The music will also take you back to your junior high school days, roller skating to Blondie songs (this will resonant if you're in your 40s) but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The peculiar part of Bruno Jamais is the clientele – couples and groups in their 40s and older, and older men with very young women. For people watching, Bruno Jamais is great fun. It's hard not to watch a well-dressed man in his 60s gyrating badly to a Donna Summer song and his scantily clad young female companion pretending to enjoy it. This is truly a pick-up joint for the older crowd, but all ages can enjoy the food, cocktails, and fun music. Some may find Bruno Jamais a little cheesy and dated and even be disturbed by the odd coupling of rich, older men trying to meet barely legal women looking for a sugar-daddy, but Bruno Jamais is a fun place to go with friends on a Saturday night. The added bonus is that you can talk about the wacky clientele the next day at brunch.
