- After some visual foreplay at Le Trapeze located only half a block away, my lover and I decided to take our excited libidos to a more private setting, the MAve Hotel. Although the hotel opened months ago, red balloons still line the floor, giving the hotel a "morning-after party" look. Silly red balloons aside, the MAve is a small, boutique hotel that supports a New York lifestyle - party in the city and then use The MAve as your "urban retreat". The lobby is small and minimal. The staff was friendly when we checked in and didn't express any surprise when we booked and checked into a room at 1:30 am. We were lucky to have found a room so easily on a chilly Friday night, especially at $239 (plus tax) that, while not inexpensive, is less than most other boutique hotels in the area. The MAve's location is ideal and thus delivers on being an "urban retreat" after some heavy partying (and petting) in the city, but its rooms are really small, the shower is badly constructed, causing flooding all over the bathroom floor, and the walls are thin (we were really conscious that others could hear our moaning). Although we didn't try it, The MAve offers a, "Desires Program". Guests can call the concierge and ask about "complimentary amenities, special services, and access to exclusive offers and promotions". I believe that the hotel might cater to erotic needs, as well, so please send us your comments if you do try this program. Overall, The MAve Hotel is ideal if you need a hotel for one night in the city and you are in the east 20s, but I might look for another hotel for my next overnight sexual encounter in the city.
