For fine, European-style lingerie, look no further than La Petite Coquette, which, by the way, translates as "the little flirt." Since 1978, this adorable, bi-level Greenwich Village shop has been wowing its loyal clientele with an incredible array of high-end thongs, bras, robes slips, corsets, boy shorts, and more. The shop's owner, Rebecca Aspan-dubbed by the press as the "guru" of lingerie-asserts that her selection is second to none and we would have to agree. The clientele, by the way, isn't too shabby either. Happy customers include such notable celebrities as Liza Minelli, Britney Spears, Liv Tyler, and Naomi Campbell. The shop has also been prominently mentioned on Sex in the City.
Much of the merchandise-which comes in a broad range of colors and delectable fabrics-is neatly tucked away in elegant drawers. A "display" board exhibiting the essentials is provided for convenience, but if you don't see what you're looking for just ask. The amiable and knowledgeable sales staff is more than happy to be of assistance. We were told that on more than one occasion a salesperson has received a kiss for helping a bewildered customer make the right purchase. One woman, who has been shopping at La Petite Coquette for years, confided in us that she is so comfortable in the store that she considers it to be an extension of her lingerie chest.
On the "erotic meter" the two items that scored the highest were the "peek-a-boo" panties ($35) and the "broccoli" lingerie from Spain, which, contrary to popular belief, is not a cruciferous vegetable. If you have money to burn, consider the crystal bra and thong, which goes for $1,000.
