Ah, Journelle, where everything is tres jolie.
I meandered into the Flatiron district shop one Sunday afternoon to take a break from the monotony of the 5th Avenue chains. Right away, the atmosphere was different: instead of thumping music, a refreshing soft tune hung in the air. The staff was friendly, low key, and extremely helpful.
Journelle's lovely lingerie decorates the perimeter of the store -- hangers and drawers line the walls. Be sure to check out all of the drawers; they contain more variety of stock, not just varying sizes of what's on display. The first thing I noticed about the merchandise was how damn pretty everything is in the store; I haven't seen so much lace, bows or floral prints together ever. But everything is somehow perfectly balanced: no femininity overkill, no nauseating cutesiness, just row after row of bras, panties, and slips that you can't wait to try on.
In addition to carrying a TON of Elle Macpherson's designs, Journelle also has a great selection of less than run of the mill sizes-they carry everything from an entire line dedicated to the smaller than A cups to gorgeous lace bras in cup sizes up to K. You can also special order sizes. They also have a wonderful selection for single or double mastectomy survivors.
Being the recessionista I am, I headed directly to the sale rack. Here were the cute things-brightly colored tank and undie combos, cotton robes instead of silk and satin, functional bras, nothing grabbed my eye until I came across a gorgeous eggplant and black silk slip. Thinking of my boyfriend's face when I came to bed in this tonight was a happy fantasy until I looked at the price tag. Yes, it was 50% off. But, it was still well over $300. Fantasy was all I'd get out of this shopping trip, but for those of you with a little (okay, a lot of) cash to burn, I highly recommend Journelle for when you want to feel exceptionally femme.
