  • A costume shop with fangs, Gothic Renaissance caters mainly to the Vampyre and Goth-Industrial crowd. There are lots of velvet capes and goblets, Victorian and Renaissance-style shirts for men, clothing by the Goth labels Lip Service and Shrine. They can outfit you as a Renaissance bride, a nun from hell, or with red or purple butterfly wings by Lisa Lost for a faerie ball. If masquerade balls are your thing, don’t miss the Mardi Gras masques imported from Venetian designer Si Lucia, which range from simple velvet animal prints to baroque gold and roses.

While the atmosphere at Gothic Renaissance is more Tim Burton than The Baroness, the budding dominatrix will find a nice selection of corsets in a variety of materials—leather-style, vinyl, and brocade—all black, naturally. Next to the over-the-top pieces by self-proclaimed “Metallic Messiah,” jeweler Axel, were some chain-mail bracelets and neckpieces for sale on consignment.

Two doors down is Halloween Adventure, where you can complete your outfit from their huge inventory of costume accessories. They stock fake chastity belts for men and women, whips and rubber chest plates, and other fun fetish gear. They carry makeup by Ben Nye, Kryolan, Backstage, and Woochie, custom fangs, hats, and an enormous selection of wigs. Play out your fantasy—Marie Antoinette, British barrister, Dutch girl, Keith Partridge shag, and for the budding Monica Lewinskys among us, the thick, graying mane of “Mr. President.”

Sorry folks, but there are no rentals.
