  • The Modern is sophisticated elegance with award-winning French-American cuisine created by Alsatian-born, Chef Gabriel Kreuther, and desserts prepared by Marc Aumont. Adjacent to the bar room, the dining room overlooks the beautiful Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden and offers a multi-course prix-fixe menu. Although the prix-fixe menu is quite expensive, especially if you also order wine, the food is absolutely delicious. It’s so fantastic that you will be tempted (and will) use a piece of bread to soak up the last bit of delicious sauce on your plate. The Bar Room is more casual with smaller tastings of rustic, Alsatian dishes. For more privacy on a date, consider having dinner in the dining room; however, for a fun evening out with friends, definitely try to snag a table or bar seat in the bar room. The bar room is frequented by well-heeled women and attractive men, so the potential to meet people in the bar room is high, especially if you’re seated at the bar where everyone congregates. At 9:30 pm one Saturday night, my friend and I were lucky enough to find two bar seats (the bar room is unreserved, so luck is critical). The bar scene remained active until the restaurant closed. Dining is available at the bar, so we both ordered the shaved pumpkin aalad with Asian pear, saffron tagliatelle with cider braised rabbit, wild mushrooms and baby zucchini (minus the rabbit), and Westfield Farm capri goat cheese apple strudel with pecans and prune armagnac ice cream. I cannot say delicious enough. The portions are small, so I could have eaten three plates of each order. The Modern, like the museum itself, delivers art at it’s finest, at least in the culinary sense. The eye candy is also very good.
