  • Connected to the upscale Mercer Hotel, Mercer Kitchen exudes a swanky, yet casual vibe. There's a bar on the ground floor that is ideal for coffee or cocktails after a day of shopping in Soho, but the Mercer Kitchen is also ideal for a date. The dining room is subterranean, but, as you descend the stairs, you'll notice that pockets of light illuminate the space. Despite its spaciousness, the dining room is cozy and intimate. The menu is American-Provencal created by renowned chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Whether you go during restaurant week for the prix fixe menu (a good time to try the restaurant as it is expensive) or any other time, the food is always outstanding. Everything on the menu is delicious, but my favorites are the steamed shrimp salad and New York strip steak. When ordering dessert, order two so that you each can try various selections from the menu; this also provides you the opportunity to feed each other tastes of your desserts, which is always a nice gesture on a date. If you're budget conscious, you might want to consider a less expensive alternative nearby like Les Jardin Bistro, but, if you're in the habit of spending $150 over more for dinner with appetizers, drinks, and dessert, Mercer Kitchen should be on your top five favorite date restaurants in NYC.
