Japonais, an exquisitely designed restaurant, fills an enormous space on 18th Street, just east of Park Ave South. The size of the venue can overwhelm both longstanding couples and first daters. Luckily, Japonais makes up for this drawback with its food. The "Rock" is a fun dish for a couple to share, and the crab cake appetizer is a treat. An interesting alternative, the under-appreciated business lunch offers a more affordable menu and a more intimate experience, as you won't be dining alongside a hundred other patrons.
