- A lot of romantic restaurants come and go, but Asia de Cuba has staying power. Quietly tucked away in the Morgans Hotel, Asia De Cuba is a hip, bi-level restaurant/lounge with white flowing curtains and a minimalist decor designed by Philippe Starck. Despite a long communal table in the center, the restaurant has a number of tables for two, especially on the second level, that provide a more intimate dining experience. Most nights you will need a reservation, unless you can find a seat in the lounge area upstairs and wait. Eating in the lounge is possible, but the tables are not conducive to eating without the risk of spilling, so opt to wait for a table. Offering a modern fusion of Asian and Latin food - hence the name Asia de Cuba - the entrees are meant to be shared, family style. On a date, this provides the opportunity to select courses that appeal to both of you. The drink menu is also extensive with wines and signature cocktails. Among my favorites is the tuna tartare on crisp wontons and the calamari salad. Combine these dishes with a sweet mojitio and you have a dining experience perhaps outmatched only by the beautiful clientele. Asia de Cube is one of a few quintessential date restaurants in New York that provide both a hip ambiance and delicious food. If you want to impress your date, Asia de Cuba should be at the top of your list.
