Everything Taboo
There has been a great deal of anger and frustration on my part these days. Naturally, as a gay man, the fact that my human rights are coming up in the
news more and more every day, and nothing is getting resolved is extremely disheartening. ABC bans Adam Lambert for doing what pop princesses have been doing for decades, CBS rejects a gay-friendly superbowl commercial, and beauty queens are allowed to openly discuss how they think gays should die. Not exactly a happy time for us.
On top of it all, somehow, I have found myself reading extremely political literature lately, much of which discusses the 'evils' of sex and how it's such a sin. I was raised agnostic, so I'm not exactly a religious expert, but I fail to see why sex is so evil. Yeah, "because the Bible says so", is not good enough for me, especially when one guy says sex is wrong and another has 300 concubines.
Anyway, it is quite apparent, at this point, that my path is moving away from the Biblical direction, and I haven't caught fire yet. I am trying to get
involved in the more 'ungodly'/kinky things, like leather and bondage. And, this is where the agonizing cherry on top of my cupcake of misery comes in.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I find it next to impossible to find the kind of guy I'm into who likes to get kinky. It seems to me that kink is something most people get interested in at a later age, or if they don't suit the commercial image of what is beautiful. Since I tend to like guys around
my age, who are slim or athletic, I'm enduring quite a struggle.
Once again, I find myself cursing mainstream society, for making the wholesome little twinks and jocks think that kinkier sex is dirty, or wrong, or scary, or all the things that I'm sure I once believed. I'm in full favor of setting up a kiddy pool at The Eagle to get the little ones adjusted.
But, then, an interesting point came up in my latest reading: What if kink wasn't taboo? What if it was considered normal to dress up in
leather, tie people up, and physically abuse each other? Would it still be fun?
The common consensus is 'no'. At least half of the fun that comes with being kinky is the fact that it feels so dirty. If everyone were doing it, or it was widely considered acceptable, it wouldn't be so enjoyable.
I can't really argue with it. If my peers didn't balk every time I made a comment about tying a boy up and gagging him, I wouldn't feel the urge to
bring it up at all.
So while I would like more options in my sex life, I have to be glad of the fact that we, at least, have a challenge in life. Thanks, Bible-beaters...thanks for keeping sex fun!
