I don't care how many cultural studies Ph.D. candidates carry on about the artistic merit and contemporary themes contained within a comic book. I mean graphic novel, they are still not that sexy. And neither, generally, are the people who read them. I challenge anyone to walk into a comic shop and be overcome with desire to make mad, passionate love with the type of clientele that salivates over the latest installment of X-Men. I'm guessing that the plastic slipcover on said comics is the closest thing most of these fan boys and girls are going to get to a bit of prophylactic action. But perhaps that's just me, since judging by the number of people poring over the illustrated fantasy magazines and hard-core Japanese adult manga, not everyone shares my views.
Midtown Comics carries a reasonable collection of both illustrated and photographic porn with a small erotic art section. There is also a range of fetish publications available, as well as some trusty back issues of Playboy. Buying your porn from Midtown Comics has the added advantage of avoiding those unsightly retailers, names on your credit card statement, although personally, I'd feel less embarrassed if people knew I shopped regularly at Harry's House of Hard Core, or Barry's Boutique of Butt. But again, that's just me.
