If you don't already know about the In The Flesh Erotic Reading Series, I'm about to tell you about one of the best things you can do for erotic fun in NYC. If you've attended an In The Flesh Erotic Reading Series, you already know about this gem. The only criticism I have is that the Reading Series is only once a month!
The In the Flesh Erotic Reading Series is held every third Thursday at the aptly-named, Happy Ending Lounge. Each series is hosted by the renowned erotic writer/editor, Rachel Kramer Bussel. Her works include, "Best Sex Writing" series, "Do Not Disturb", "Spanked" and "Dirty Girls". She also teaches erotic writing workshops around NYC, including at SHAG in Brooklyn.
Each month, Rachel curates lively and sexually titillating erotic readings that feature a line-up of American and foreign writers. Writers share their down and dirty sexual explorations, either personal or fictional - and the prose is hot and, often, explicitly. Writers range from professional authors, educators, erotica writers, porn stars, bloggers, BDSM experts to entrepeneurs, among others, and include Michael Musto, Rakesh Satyal, Laura Antoniou, Mo Beasley, Susie Bright, Lily Burana, Jessica Cutler, Stephen Elliott, Martha Garvey, Gael Greene, Andy Horwitz, Debra Hyde, Maxim Jakubowski, Josh Kilmer-Purcell, Tsaurah Litzky, Suzanne Portnoy, Sofia Quintero, M.J. If you want to get a seat, make sure to be there when the venue opens, usually 30 minutes before the readings start. There is always a line outside before each event. If you're not one of the lucky few to get a table or seat, then it's standing room only, unless you want to sit on the dirty floor (and many do). The best seats are on the right as you walk in or at the first two booths by the door. Otherwise, the standing room only crowd will block your view, and it's not their fault; they just have nowhere else to stand.
We all know that food and sex go hand-in-hand, so be prepared to have an enormous amount of candy, chips and delicious cupcakes served to you by the sponsors. Don't be afraid to indulge in the junk food. It's like a one-night stand; you'll regret it in the morning, but it sure feels good when you're having it. So, toss back a few cupcakes and let the writers stimulate you with their words.The In The Flesh Erotic Reading Series is about pure enjoyment.
