Living Revolution

Sometimes, I get dragged under by the BULLSHIT, and I forget I am a LIVING REVOLUTION!!!

When I say bullshit, I'm talking about all the aspects of life that would keep us from connecting with one another, our "higher selves" or with a creative force. I'm thinking about how people seem to fall into the habitual behavior of distancing themselves from various things. Most often they do this to protect themselves from something. People even attempt to "protect" themselves from positive experiences. This is where my concern lies - in the possible root of that particular impulse, an impulse which I find to be quite negative and even, at times, tragic.

Connection - is it not what drives us, mostly? Don't we wish to feel connected to something? To belong?

Considering the archetypal myth of Adam and Eve; whether anyone believes it to be fact or not is really moot, since the story is a part of my consciousness and, I would hazard to guess, a part of much of the collective Unconscious of most of the Western World. Considering this, one of our initial experiences as humans was that of alienation. Nice way to build a well-functioning world.

But I am getting ahead of myself. First of all - that pesky Tree of Knowledge - why put something obviously beautiful and alluring right in someone's midst and then order them not to touch it? That's just downright sadistic. And isn't Sadism a perversion??? Hmmmmmmm?????

Sidebar:
One thing I love about the BDSM world is that Sadism and Masochism, as well as Dominance and Submission, are enacted in an atmosphere - and even under a contract - of mutual agreement. Already, this is more civilized than most instances of sadism and masochism, etc. in so-called polite society.

Returning to our unwitting forebearers:
So, there they are, the two of them, not eating from that tree; and then, whoopsy daisy...First, what in all tarnation does a Divine Deity care about such things? Giving orders? I'm sure that I don't have to tell you, good people, that authoritarianism has nothing to do with Divinity. So, this bossy entity orders these two innocent people not to eat from this tree, right? I've always wondered many things about this story. Here's one of them:

IF Adam and Eve had obeyed God, would he have told them: "Okay, kiddies, you were obedient to me, and I"m proud of you, so go ahead and ransack that fucking tree now. Eat till your sick!" Was it a test of patience? Am I projecting? But really - then to issue such a punishment. I mean jeeze! Cast out of Paradise for all Eternity!! Talk about over-reacting!!

As I've become familiar with, and inspired by, Zen Buddhist teachings, I must wonder how a Divine being could give a shit. How this being could possess such flawed human traits as authoritarianism, anger, and petulance...

Now - to the whole metaphor of tree/fruit/knowledge being SEX. WOW! When, sometime during my adolescence, I found out the implication of that metaphor, I was like" "Are you kidding me?" I tell you, I am way more inclined to go with the patience/ obedience thing myself. That seems more believable. I mean - don't you think Adam and Eve were already fucking
from the get-go? It was Paradise after all!!

But, if we presuppose that they weren't sexually active or even sexually oriented (even though the story provides us with gender specificity and tells us that Adam was lonely, so God made him a chick to keep him company), then we are talking about two simple, primordial creatures, who act purely out of innate curiosity. And we are then taught that this is a sin. A sin? Sin? Goodness gracious!! Curiosity killed the cat - but hey - maybe the cat died happy, rather than sitting there, stewing in it's own frustration, growing decrepit with bitterness until it was embalmed with resentment, entombed in it's own misery, and sucking life from any passing vital spirit.

But, as is my style, I do digress...Continuing to table the sex idea - here's my take on the lesson of the myth. It tells me a few things:

1) That authoritarianism is bound to stir up discontent.
2) That the authoritarian entity’s (aka God) sense of ownership over it's creations was shallow and not at all of a Divine, nurturing nature.
3) That one inherent flaw with humanity is that we can be in a garden full of wonders and, if someone tells us to leave one thing alone - just one - even though we are surrounded by a bevy of options - that is the one thing we must absolutely get our grubby little hands on. I mean - we're talking about Paradise here. So there had to be hundreds of fragrant fruit trees or what the fuck ever, right? What's the big deal? Take a walk, look past your immediate surroundings and choose from the other splendors before you.

These three points are based on one thing: LIMITATION (which encompasses stubbornness) - and promotes Narrow Perspective. Both God and his creatures were soooo stubborn (the sins of the father?). That is what I take away from this story. I mean - Adam and Eve, being innocents, supposedly really couldn’t have known any better - so I can, will, and
do cut them some slack; but, God? Testing them? Throwing a hissy fit? That is so unbecoming a Divine Entity.

If there was any sin committed, I will opine that it was the sin of "lack of imagination" on the part of Adam and Eve and perhaps on the part of all involved...although the serpent was pretty crafty, I suppose. But I am not even going to get started on the symbolism of the serpent!

Furthermore, we KNOW the story is wrought with some kind of male dominated, super-ego, control freak spew, which is fear-driven; AND which in turn means, it is GARBAGE!! Or, as I termed it earlier: bullshit. However - it does provide one with a great deal of opportunity for thought and debate. And, as one of my favorite music groups, Flobots, says: "If you are thinking, you are winning."

Why or how is any of this germane to the ethos of this website? Because it's my blog, and I'll rant if I want to. But truly - Limitation and Narrow Perspective are exactly the sorts of things, which freethinking, like-minded PERVS, such as we, are always challenging. This is a Revolution, you see...and it is beautiful in my eyes...
