Unlike sex "museums" we've encountered elsewhere, MOSEX takes itself very seriously. You won't find any tacky or sleazy exhibits here, but rather an academic and fascinating collection of photographs, costumes, toys, videos, artifacts, and much more. Although the price of admission is quite steep at $14.50, we suppose it can be justified since good sex is never cheap.
The Museum of Sex is devoted to all aspects of human sexuality. Exhibitions past and present-including "Sex Among the Lotus," an historical analysis of erotica's place within Chinese culture, and "Get Off!," which displays the work of artists who specialize in erotic themes-demonstrate the breadth and depth to which this institution aspires. The museum describes its mission as "to preserve and present the history, evolution, and cultural significance of human sexuality," which it carries out through its exhibitions, programs, and publications.
