Think of Heather Firth as a topographic like-minded Georgia O'Keefe, with a really good pair of hiking boots. Ms. Firth is the woman behind "Earth Erotica", a stunning series of color photographs that illustrate sexual imagery found in nature: the curves of rocks, the suggestive slopes of stones, and the primal peaks and valleys of mountains and deserts. To discover these provocative images, she trots the globe, from New York to California and from Italy to Jordan, allowing neither rain nor sleet nor snow to interfere with her quest.
Ms. Firth's background as a sex educator has no doubt played some role in inspiring her pursuit of Eros in nature. Her imagery remains subtly ambiguous so that the viewer is afforded an equal thrill of discovery: In any given landscape, you might perceive the curve of a buttock, the crevice between two thighs, a phallic sculpture, or, you might just find a stunning formation of stone. As one observer quipped, "These photos rock!" Whatever your interpretation, Ms. Firth manages to stimulate the mind, and perhaps a few other parts of the anatomy as well.
