- Art @ Large is tucked away on the seventh floor of the old Film Center Building in Hell's Kitchen. The non-descript front door of the gallery hardly prepares you for the splendor of erotic art that lies within. Although on the petite side, the gallery is loaded with all sorts of erotic gems, like letters from the admirers and fans of Ducky Doolittle and the Catholic erotica of John John Jesse. The intimate setting is certainly appropriate for much of the work that is on display. Run by Pet Silvia and his partner Tammey Stubbs-artists themselves-Art @ Large represents such renowned, cutting-edge artists as Annie Sprinkle, Charles Gatewood, Barbara Nitke, Andy Kane, Frances Turner, Carolyn Weltman, and the Reverend Steven Johnson Leyba. Silvia and Stubbs categorize the work they show as "Neo-Erotic," a "21st-century celebration of the human form, sexuality, and human behavior." At the gallery you'll find everything from erotica demure to extreme fetish images. Much of the work is fresh, exciting, and titillating. A recent show (held at another space), Edge, featured S&M photography, while Fred Hatt's classically rendered nudes give a nod to the lighter side of sexy. If you're on a budget, here's some good news: Art @ Large offers a large variety of affordable fine art prints from many of their artists.
