• French Tuesdays calls itself a "classy social networking phenomenon and lifestyle brand". I met one of the founders, Pierre, many years ago when they had less than fifty members. Today, French Tuesdays has become a staple of the New York social scene. It's hard to deny its success. Its membership is huge (although I don't know exact numbers, it's in the thousands) and their bi-weekly Tuesday parties are always in the hippest venues in New York. Combine beautiful people with a trendy venue, and you've got a typical French Tuesdays event. This is the upside; the downside of French Tuesdays is that it loves to flaunt its exclusivity. Membership is by invitation-only and requires the sponsorship of two members. Non-members can attend an event only as a guest of a member. Some of its events are members-only. This elitism may not bother everyone and, clearly, it hasn't thwarted the growth and popularity of French Tuesdays; however, I sometimes feel a disdain for such tactics. Regardless of your position on this issue, French Tuesdays members are attractive professionals who party hard. As the name suggests, French Tuesdays events have a French flair, with French sponsors, French champagne, French-speakers and francophiles. All others attend because it's a good time. I've met a decent number of people at French Tuesdays events. In fact, whether it's for a hook-up or something more permanent, French Tuesdays events are great for single people. Many love-connections have blossomed from these events. In fact, one of my friends met her husband at a French Tuesdays event many years ago. So, for dating in NYC, become a member of French Tuesdays or attend an event as a guest, and be prepared to meet, mingle, drink, dance, and flirt.
