  • As a single woman over 40, it's not so much fun to go a bar that caters to urban professionals slightly above the drinking age. Well, actually, it is really fun to go to these bars and get hit on by newly-graduated frat boys, but if you want to meet older men in a more refined environment where an imposing bouncer is not asking you for age verification at the door, one place in NYC that offers mingling in a sophisticated setting is the bar at the Four Seasons Restaurant. The Four Seasons Restaurant has a sprawling interior designed by renowned architects, Philip Johnson and Mies van der Rohe. The expansive wooden bar is on the second floor by the Grill Room and is surrounded by two-story high windows; on a snowy day, the scene is magical. The Four Seasons Restaurant is well-known for attracting power professionals from nearby Park Avenue financial institutions and accounting firms, as well as international businessmen having a lunch meeting or relaxing over cocktails and salty peanuts at the bar after work hours. On a recent Friday, I went with a fellow physician in town for a conference. Within minutes of finding bar stools and ordering our cocktails, we met two men celebrating the closing of a corporate transaction. An hour later, we met more men unwinding after work. Glancing around the bar area, we noticed that men outnumbered women, a rare occurrence at most bar scenes in NYC. After several hours and exchanges of business cards with at least four men, my friend and I decided that the bar at the Four Seasons is really one of the best places to meet men over 40.
