Walking into a bar where everyone’s eyes are fixated on their cell phones may seem like an odd phenomenon for the average New Yorker looking for a date, but it’s a good sign for Cupid’s Lab organizers.
Cupid’s Lab, whose tagline is, “Adding a human touch to online dating,” is an innovative, new way to connect singles through mobile phones at live events.
Their “live events,” which take place at local bars around the city, draw crowds of up to 200 hopeful singles. Different than the ordinary singles events, Cupid Lab’s live events are good for all kinds of personalities, and provides a really fun way to meet other singles.
While the system of text messaging may seem complicated at first (you sign your number up when you enter the event and can “crush” or “wink” at people via text messaging), it’s fun once you get the hang of it (especially when you realize there are many great men and women in your vicinity who want to get to know you better!)
Cupid’s Lab’s text messaging technique eliminates the initial questions of “Does he think I’m cute? Is he interested in me?” and you can quickly be on your way to having a conversation with someone.
At a recent live event at the Blinded Pig near Union Square, many people were trying this new method out for the first time. Others were coerced into going with their friends, who had attended a previous Cupid’s Lab event with success.
Single New Yorkers from all five boroughs (and even parts of North Jersey) mingled and had drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. From the consultant from Park Slope to the teacher from Long Island, there was someone for everyone.
So if you’re up for meeting some new local singles and (want to make sure that guy you think is cute is feeling the same way about you) then sign up for an upcoming Cupid’s Lab event. All you need is an open mind and a cell phone!
