The Campbell Apartment revives the splendor and beauty of the bygone Jazz era. Once the office of 1920's tycoon, John W. Campbell, the space was renovated as a bar/lounge, but the original architectural details remain: beautiful woodwork, beamed ceiling, decorated windows, and a huge stone fireplace. The lighting is always dim, and the couches inspire lounging for hours, or at least until you move on to your next destination or take the train home from Grand Central. Despite it's location in one of the world's busiest train stations, the Campbell Apartment is removed from that hustle and bustle, providing a tranquil and romantic spot for a drink; if you're lucky enough to snag a table by the fireplace, the experience is even more intimate. The Campbell Apartment offers an extensive cocktail, wine and spirits list with a good mix of classic and innovative drinks. For dining, go elsewhere.
If you're a forty-something, this is one of the best places to meet singles. During the week, professional men and women from nearby corporate offices can be found mingling over drinks. The elegant environment is more conducive to conversation than other bars catering to a younger crowd. The Campbell Apartment, at one point, had a strict dress code for men - no jeans or sneakers - in recent years, however, the dress code has been relaxed. Nevertheless, the crowd is well-dressed. The atmosphere is never a riotous party, but for that - and the twenty-somethings that go along with it - go to the B Bar and Grill.
