If you want a little background on SWITCH parties, read our review of Lesbian Sex Mafia (LSM). After attending an LSM monthly meeting, I went to a SWITCH party, and almost all the guests at the SWITCH party had just been at the LSM meeting an hour before.
SWITCH events are NYC’s monthly genderqueer/women/trans bdsm party. I did see a few men in drag, as well, I think, for SWITCH states that it “trusts that you can define your own gender (or not) and will not do that for you.” SWITCH parties are held every 3rd Friday of the month at Paddles at 250 W. 26th St. (see our review of Paddles in this BDSM section). If you’ve never been to Paddles, it’s one of a few, if not the only, BDSM club left in town. BDSM’ers reminisce about when there was more action in town; now, they lament that clubs open to all are being replaced with private events restricted to people “in the know”. Having said that, Paddles still gets s good crowd and has the requisite bondage devices. Pandora’s Box next door offers more, but is open only to men who pay for their fantasies. Every so often, though, the connecting doors between Pandora’s Box and Paddles open, so Paddles’ guests can enjoy all the upscale, fantasy rooms on the other side.
For its monthly parties, SWITCH rents one side of Paddles, but unlike their motto that “gender policies make SWITCH cringe”, the parties are definitely off -limits to men. Once inside, the guests are in various corners or tied by chains to the wall and engaging in their respective scenes. As a newbie, I didn’t feel comfortable gawking which you can sort of do at swingers’ parties. Participation is optional at SWITCH parties, but SWITCH has a real and raw BDSM environment, so, unless you are in the lifestyle, you may find these parties a little unnerving. However, if BDSM is your scene and you are not a straight men just looking to be part of some hot girl-on-girl action, this is the perfect party to find your submissive.
